Excuses will cripple your happiness and Success

Excuses are mental monsters that give a false sense of positive reassurance. And yet they are used by millions of people almost every day of our life.
You know that you want to start working on a ‘certain’ project or that you should move on to another stage in your life but as soon as you mount up the courage to do so- these monsters that wander in your mind find a way to delay your decision making process and keep you wondering in the same space, your comfort zone.
Sound familiar?
Making excuses and avoiding what you should be doing to get ahead in life can kill your ability to build an abundance of wealth and find your purpose in life.
If you use excuses to stop you from facing your fears such as fear of rejection or fear of making mistakes then you will hinder you possibility of success and thus remain stagnant.
They are a lot of ways that the habit of making excuses have hurt you and you may not even know it. It is true that the level of success that you achieve will be influenced by the amount of excuses you have made.
Take a look at some ways your excuses affect your life negatively.

They are stopping you from taking opportunities right in front of you

Excuses make us blind to what might even be right in front us.
Instead of seeing what we have to do right to capitalize on an opportunity, the habit of making excuses will make you focus only the negative side, it will make you see what you are lacking and what will make it okay for you not going for your opportunities instead, and this will give you a way to back out of the challenge.
Imagine if Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak said that in order for them to start a company they needed an office to start in First and not just a garage. We would not even have Apple today. And if Bill Gates had said the same then maybe you would not even be reading this.
They all had to overcome every negative excuse that they could use in order to create their own opportunities that led them to massive success.
What you don’t need is an excuse for why you don’t have opportunities, what you need to do is open your eyes and see the opportunities in front of you and the ones you can make for yourself.
Don’t let excuses keep you from reaching your highest potential and grabbing your opportunities.

They will destroy your self confidence

You may have noticed that most excuses come in form of self-doubt.
Self-doubt is one of the major causes of failure.
Think about it. How many times have you said you can’t do something before even trying it first? How many possible great friendships have you shunned away from because you thought that if you reached out to them, they won’t like you? How many jobs have you not even applied for because you said you were not qualified enough? Just how many times have you said the words ‘I can’t?’
Each time you do that you doubt yourself and that will cripple your confidence and leave you feeling hopeless.
You can choose to overcome your doubt. Actually, you MUST learn to overcome it.
That is because no matter the goal, you will always face some type of adversity or obstacle. And if you always give excuses that leave you doubting yourself you really won’t achieve much.

They will shatter any chances you had of success

Think about the successful people you look up to, better yet take the time to study them.
They don’t give excuses.
They believe that they are responsible for their success and failures and use very little excuses to hide their negative habits or behaviors.
On the other hand the unsuccessful individual will always find a way to blame their failures on someone else or on something else.
This in turn makes them not capable of learning from their failures and using the lesson to adjust their actions accordingly.
They do this because they often tend to mistakenly believe that an excuse will protect them emotionally from embarrassment, uncertainty, and accountability. But actually, what excuses do is just the opposite, making them feel anxious, inadequate, guilty, and weak.
These negative emotions have the effect of holding them back from realizing their potential, recognizing opportunities, and utilizing their unique talents and skills.
Placing blame on external circumstances instead of accepting responsibility for an internal problem will always cripple your success.

They stop us from having the relationships we deserve

Have you ever met someone who told you that you can’t do something just because they can’t do it for some reason?
They simply tried to ruin your chances of success because theirs is not working out. They have used so many excuses that prevent them from trying and now they want you to use them as well. Well most people really don’t like hanging out with such. And if we are like that we will lose out on some good friendships.
Similarly if we have negative habits that hurt other people and we constantly make excuses for them instead of trying to change them, other people may very well give up on us and we will also lose out on great friendships.
Another way people lose out on good relationships is by using the excuse of ‘waiting’. Waiting for ‘the love of their life’ or waiting to ‘find love’. Contrary to movies, songs and novels if all we do is wait for someone to magically walk in, we may wait for the rest of your lives. If we want to find love we have to make ourselves available by talking to people, using chat sites e.t.c

Final thoughts…

Every time you give an excuse, it cripples you and kills your chances of success.
If you want to improve any area of life, stop making excuses and blaming others and instead take responsibility for your life and actions and go forward boldly and take charge.
If you continually blame others for your failures then you will not learn much from your failures. You will not see how unproductive habits or hear how unproductive thoughts or decisions may have led to your failure.
You need to stop making excuses and start taking take responsibility for your actions, thoughts and behaviors. Only then will you make progress towards your happiness and success.

Forget Goals, Be Present

We tend to think of life in terms of accomplishments, rather than experiences. But life is meant to be live with the “goal” of being present in the moment.
This is how to live a meaningful life. Not by having goals and doing things merely to reach those goals, but to live in awareness.
For the most part, society is distracted from this principle. Society tries to derive meaning through status, material wealth, and arbitrary goals.
Take the pressure off. Forget about your goals and plans and just be in the moment. Let each moment guide you.
This isn’t about being undisciplined. That’s a different type of letting go. This is about not trying to control everything. It’s about allowing inner wisdom to guide you.
Goals and plans are often disrupted by reality anyway. Having a general direction makes sense, but details written in stone don’t.

10 Things You Need To Give Up If You Want To Be Exceptionally Successful

In order to take flight and become successful, you need to carefully assess your extra baggage.

When it comes to our wealth and success, we tend to fixate on the things we need to acquire in the future to make those visions come alive. However there are also certain ingrained habits that might be dragging you down right now.
In order to take flight and become mega-successful, you need to carefully assess your extra baggage. The good news is that your toxic routines and mindsets can be kicked to the curb, starting today.
So take a huge leap towards success and wealth by giving up these 10 things:

1. Doubt

“I always knew I was going to be rich. I don’t think I ever doubted it for a minute.”Warren Buffett
You are unconsciously sabotaging your progress when you indulge in negativity. Your journey to success starts the moment you condition your brain to believe this is where you want to go. If you continue to believe otherwise, then you shouldn’t expect success to follow through.
Rather than being your own worst enemy, get yourself in a good mood through cultivating positive thoughts that will inspire you to continue reaching for your goals.

2. Impulsive emotional decisions

In my many years in finance, I’ve seen people throw decades of financial planning out the window because of their feelings. And it’s easy to do that in a stressful workplace too.
When successful people find themselves in situations where they’re extremely angry, sad or frustrated, they let themselves ride out those emotions without acting on them. The simple act of waiting to make a decision until you’ve returned to a levelheaded state can play a huge role in the success you achieve.

3. Reliance on praise

“Self-confidence must come from within. Outside reinforcement and strokes can help, but you have to build your own confidence.” –Steve Jobs
No one can advocate for you or make it happen like you can. You have to be your own best cheerleader. You must believe in your own success, and this means that, if the right opportunity doesn’t present itself, you should create your own opportunity.

4. Being a control freak

Our attention spans and willpower are finite. So, if you attempt to micromanage every single aspect of your life, which plenty of motivated people do, you’ll end up limiting the attention you can pay to the important stuff.
This isn’t an excuse to do sloppy work, but you must only direct your efforts towards things you can control. For instance, if you’re leaving your comfort zone and learning a new skill, accept that there will be some slip-ups. Being flexible amidst adversities is a virtue you must practice to create difference in your life.

5. People-pleasing

It is a jungle out there. Everyone is clamoring to be noticed, to be ahead, to become game-changers. Hence, people will not baby-talk you all the way. You have to prove yourself through hard work without expecting that everyone will believe in and compliment you.
As Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook COO, once said, “Leaders should strive for authenticity over perfection.”
Quit doing things for the sake of others’ appreciation — do them because they are needed to fulfill your vision.

6. The blame game

“If you mess up, it’s not your parents’ fault, so don’t whine about your mistakes, learn from them.” –Bill Gates
If you don’t get it right this time, don’t complain and don’t play the blame game — it will just take your time in exchange for nothing but negativity.
Have the courage to take responsibility for the results of your work and decision. It will teach you humility and give you priceless experiences that you can take with you as you move closer to your goals.
